Your Local South Hobart Builders

Based in South Hobart, we understand the unique challenges that come with building here. From balancing budgets and timelines to working within the local environment and climate. We appreciate how much time and energy goes into managing a project, and how important it is to see that dream become a reality at the end of the journey.

As proud members of the Master Building Group, we bring high standards and professionalism to every project. We value communication, client relationships, and quality.

Built on 20+ Years of Experience

Building a home is one of the most personal and meaningful projects you can undertake. It requires trust, open communication, and shared vision.

We value the relationships we build just as much as the homes themselves. We understand the trust our clients place in us, and we work hard to honour it through professionalism, transparency, and genuine care from the first conversation to the final handover.

Our goal is to make the experience of building with us not only seamless, but enjoyable.

The Foundations We Build On

Meet the Team

2M Builders is operated by old friends Andrew Maynard and Ben McArthur.

“Both of us have had successful careers prior to ‘getting on the tools’ and bring a variety of skills and experience to your project.

We pride ourselves on being honest, reliable, and easy to work with. We look forward to working with you soon!”

  • Andrew was formerly a Chartered Professional Civil Engineer and spent much of the time between 2007 and 2017 working on various design and construction projects in the Tasmanian water sector.

In addition to his engineering degree, Andrew has a diploma in project management, is a qualified carpenter, holds a high-risk licence for scaffolding and is fairly handy on a computer.

Andrew undertook his carpentry apprenticeship with John Hebblewhite (2013 MBA Tas Residential Builder of the Year) and recently built his own family home in South Hobart.

  • Ben has degrees in marine biology and education and has been working in various roles within the Tasmanian construction industry since 2016.

He is a qualified roofer, having undertaken his roofing apprenticeship with SDM Roofing. Ben has more recently switched his focus to carpentry and has been working on various renovation projects with licenced builder Gavin Richardson.

He has worked on a huge variety of new build and renovation sites over the years. He also possesses an uncanny sense of balance at heights and is a general whizz with any kind of sheet metal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Building or renovating can feel like a big step, especially when it’s your home and your future on the line.

We believe clarity and trust go hand in hand, so we’ve answered some of the most common questions we get from clients across Southern Tasmania.

  • We focus on residential builds. Everything from custom homes and extensions to major renovations. Our team brings together carpentry, roofing, scaffolding, and project management, which means we can handle everything from early planning to the final fit-out.

  • Both. We regularly collaborate with Hobart’s leading architects and designers, but we’re just as comfortable working with your existing plans. We’re big believers in open communication, so whether it’s your architect or ours, everyone stays on the same page from start to finish.

  • As much as you’d like to be. Some clients prefer regular site updates and walkthroughs; others are happy with milestone check-ins. We tailor our communication to suit you, ensuring you always feel informed and confident without being overwhelmed.

  • Transparency is non-negotiable. We provide detailed quotes upfront and keep you informed if anything changes. If adjustments are needed, either due to site conditions or design refinements, we explain the reasoning clearly and work with you to make the best decision for your project.

  • We find that building locally means building with accountability.

We live here, we work here, have family here, and our reputation travels quickly in communities like ours.

When we hand over a home, it’s often to someone we’ll bump into at the shop or in town, and that’s exactly how we like it.
